Went out to Hopewell this morning at around 6:30, stayed until around 10:30. Caught 10 bass and two sunfish all on a red rubber worm. Nothing of any size; all were around the 8-12 inch range. Noticed a lot of people saying they don't have much luck here. I live right nearby so I come down every once in a while, usually with some luck.

I've never caught anything too big in Hopewell but I usually at least catch a few in the keeper range. I think it gets a bit tougher this time of year with all the recreational paddlers/boaters.

What do you catch the keepers on? I fish that lake a lot and never caught anything over 12".

I always struggle to catch keeper bass there. Its usually a grind to scratch out a limit. Guys who do well there tell me you have to be fishing deeper to catch better fish, but I haven't figured out the deep pattern there.

I usually fish pretty shallow since my kayak doesn't have any depth/fish finder on it. The last time I was there was late May so I'm not sure how I would do now but the ones I caught were holding pretty close to any grass/weeds I could find.

I usually fish with finesse worms with a small weight. I use the same red color every lake I fish at. I headingbasck over tomorrow and I will try some swimnaits off the dam. I always have luck down there.

Mos to fthe lake is not very deep and there is nothing in the middle to attract bass

In my opinion Hopewell certainly isn't giving out too many large Bass this season but quantity is still very good. If you don't mind going out and catching a good supply of smaller Bass this lake can be a lot of fun. It gets pretty packed on the weekends after about 10 or so (boat rentals, pleasure kayakers etc) so you need to get out early. I typically catch one monster out of there each year but I have not this year; YET! Back in the Spring though there were some pics of a few 5+ Bass caught out of there; so there are a few in there. The strange thing I find with this lake is that it's hard to put a pattern together most times. I can go one day and catch a bunch on one bait but the next trip out there I will catch 12 Bass on 6 different baits. But on the rare occasion when you can find a pattern the results are incredible. I have two 20+ days down there this year so far and I typically only fish this lake every other weekend. My advice on this lake though is to not fish it the way you used to; this lake has changed; I had numerous "money spots" on that lake and this year I cannot buy a bite in many of those spots. That has led me to be more exploratory of the lake and fish new spots that didn't necessarily yield in the past. My point; Bass aren't necessarily where you would think they should be in the lake. There's some great looking cover on the lake; but that doesn't mean there's a Bass on that particular piece of cover......juts sayin'.
