My last outing today, screen was loaded so much I thought my FF was malfunctioning, but the bite was virtually non existant. Had a good spree when the rain began. I left shortly after that. I think the ice is short lived with all this rain and milder temperatures, time to put the gear away and focus on Spring fishing. Been a GREAT season, Highlight: was my 29 inch 11.5 pound catfish from Struble. Low point: burning up 2 electric fillet knives but I guess that's a good thing now that the freezer is full.

That sounds like a pretty good day to me. I fished today from about 1:30 until 5:30. Kept 22 crappie, all good fish with a couple better ones in there too. Had the best mid afternoon bite yet this year at marsh and wound up leaving before it really turned on since I had enough fish on the ice already. I really had to fish the machine today. Couldn't feel the bite, just had to set the hook when the lines met up. Fun day out. Gonna hit it again tomorrow and then that may be it for me. johndelsordo@allstate.com send em over!

I have been putting them to good use. If anyone is looking for something different to do with all those crappie filets, make some crappie cakes with them. Made some Monday night and they were amazing. Dare I say better then crab cakes!? Leftovers on a roll for lunch are just perfect as well.

Couldn't resist, went out again, Friday the 13th., no bad luck, someone planked the shoreline which made getting on and off a breeze! Ended up with a pile of jumbo perch and crappie. Ice is still 11 inches thick in the middle. Fished from 8 AM - 2 PM. Cloudy conditions with a rain storm moving in had the perch actively feeding, which I could of stayed longer, evening bite is probably going to be intense like the morning was. I might try again tommorrow if it's a light rain.

Iceman, where did you get onto the ice at? I was going to switch over to some trout fishing tomorrow but with the rain the creeks should be a bit high and muddy. Think Ill try and get onto the ice instead. Maybe chalfant? Id imagine the main lake has melted pretty thin by now

Bassbum,If you wear a pair of high rubber boots you can get on at Chalfont by the small parking area, There is open water for about the first 5 feet then its good ice under the water for about 3 feet before you step on to solid ice. My friend has been going out wearing waders. This rain may have changed that. The ice was 11 inches thick after you clear the shoreline. I image the perch bite today with this rain would be steady, it was yesterday even with a sunny sky.

Thanks for the info Iceman. I think I will probably throw on my waders and head over this afternoon for a final trip.

Went out yesterday afternoon for a few hours. Fished off of chalfant. Still plenty of thick ice out there, but I had to throw the waders on to get out to it. There was maybe 5 feet of water and broken ice before you could climb up and start walking. Marked tons of fish but a lot just ignored the bait. Caught a bunch of perch but only 1 crappie. Nice to get out one more time.

Well, all I can say is that I had a great time with the gang this year, starting at struble and over to marsh creek for the 2nd half. caught a lot of fish, learned some new tricks, and made some new friends and even managed to get lost in the fog/dark once, lol,,,,,,but I had a great time, little sorry to see it go but I cant say I didn't get enough days in on the ice that's for sure and I have a few bags of fillets in the freezer to have some fish around at least till the flounder start biting. the state has been stocking local streams for the april 4 opener,,i seen a few bruser trout go in,so sharpen your hooks. the west branch of the brandywine is due to be stocked this thurs(Hibernia park),,if you would like to help,or just observe the stock truck meets at 1130 across from the sadsburyville post office on rt 30.

I have to agree with the other posts, it was a great ice season! It was good to connect with old friends, meet new friends & share in some memorable outings. I considerd changing my name from Iceman to Bucket Azz, because of all the days & weeks I sat on my bucket out there, lol. Altho the ice may be gone I will continue to chase the crappies & perch thru out the Spring & Summer. Look for the guy working the shorelines in waders or spending countless hours at the bridge especially predawn & after sunset, that'll be me!Until we freeze again, have a good open water season!
