Fished Octoraro Saturday and today and boated a combined 40+ bass, 2 white perch, and a catfish.
Saturday the water was much muddier. It took a little while until we dialed in on them. After catching one on a jig while reeling it in, and my partner was doing alright with a spinnerbait we knew it would be a black and blue chatterbait bite. The fish seemed to be relating well to the small cutbacks and in thinner bushy type cover. Biggest one on Saturday was 4 lbs 12 oz, and we had 3 others over 4. Most were 2 lbs, we didn't catch many dinks.
Today I got to the lake and the water was much clearer. Last night I made a bunch of black blue chatterbaits anticipating another chatterbait bite, but the water seemed to clear for it. Again it took me awhile to dial them in. I couldn't get bit in the cutbacks or bushy cover. I started to catch them on a paddletail worm on larger logs, but the bite still seemed a little slow. I got to some riprap and tied on a sunfish squarebill crankbait and didn't put it down the rest of the day. Anywhere I could find a large log, not so much with many branches just a log in the water, on a shallow flat, I'd get bit. I could have stayed there all day had I not had to work in the afternoon. It was without a doubt the best crankbait bite I've ever had. My partner (girlfriend) didn't catch anything she just read. I caught 25ish bass and was off the water around 1pm. I had 4 over 4 lbs, biggest one 4 lbs 9 oz. Looking at my schedule, it hurts to see I won't be getting back out for a couple weeks.
