Got to Hopewell at about 8:30 AM and was surprised to see about 6 boats in the water ahead of me. After launching the boat I headed left towards the dam and the first thing I saw was a huge Bald Eagle perched on the tree tops at the waters edge. Now that is a proper way to start off Bassin' for the season. I fished until around 12:30 and managed 4 bass. Nothing spectacular but I was very pleased for the first outing. Water temp was 58 when I got there and it hit 60 before I left. Water was quite murky by Hopewell standards. I picked off three of the Bass on a Strike King Red Eye Shad and another on a Soft Plastic Swimbait. Also lost two at the boat; one hit as I was pulling the Swimbait out of the water and the other hit my Swimbait as it was laying on the bottom while I was cleaning up a "professional over-run" on the baitcaster. I never got a proper hookset because I thought I just picked up a bunch of snot grass with the bait. All in all I was quite pleased with the day. Once the wind kicked up though I packed it up and headed home.
