I'm also a newbie to the possibility of ice fishing. Question for you guys, do you all use a vexilar/fish finder of some sort or do you mostly go in blind?

First, if you haven't been you better get going, who know how long we will have ice. I just use my humming bird I use on my boat. I just bought the ice fishing adaptor for it. Works great. I been ice fishing since I was a kid and I never had one till this year. I love it but its not a necessity. I do just fine without it. As a newbie you should be asking questions more like about gear, lures, bait, where to fish and techniques.
Hope I helped

jiggers right,,,you gotta get um while the gettins good. and the last 3 days have been very good for me,,,still in 40ft,,,i didn't even use bait today,,,just a gold cast master 1/12oz,,,,no dman you don't need a machine but they sure are nice ,,,it makes it a lot easier when you can see your jig about to get hit,,,but you still have to be able to coakes them up off the bottom and entice them to hit,,,constant lifting,,,holding, dropping back to the bottom and repeat seems to be working well.

Yesterday I drilled a test hole on the lyndell side and the ice was still 5"-6" thick about 20ft out from shore.

Thanks for the info. I know I'm a bit late to the game, I was just curious. I doubt I'll get into much ice fishing this year, but I want to be prepared for it next year. I have been fishing a lot of spillways and lower Delaware rivers and doing well on yellow perch and crappie, but I live about 15 mins from Marsh Creek, so I'd like to give it a shot at some point.

Fished all day Tuesday. Shore ice was questionable, everything else was good about 6 inches everywhere I went. The bite was really good in the morning then slowed down by 1 PM but still managed to catch fish all day. Gate at Chalfont road was closed, Lyndell and the Park office were plowed and open. Not sure how long the ice will last after these warm temps and rain. Gonna miss it when it's gone!

I fished from noon till dark at MC. Crappie bite was slow at first but was on fire by sunset. The ice should stick around for a while yet
