Haven't been to Hopewell in a while this season so with a day off work I thought I would give it a try. I did not arrive until roughly 12:30 PM and wasn't expecting too much with the rain the day before and the post-front cold windy conditions. I am so glad I went though; I latched into 11 Bass in the 3-1/2 hours I was there. I also lost 3 on my line as well. Contrary to my belief there are Smallmouth Bass in that Lake. While fishing to the right of the dam in the rocky shoreline I hooked (and lost) a Smallmouth that I would guess around 16". I got her in and was pulling her up into the boat when she shook off. Several of the Bass I caught were fairly decent for that lake; the largest was 17" (also caught a 15")but I certainly caught a few of the 10" Bass that the lake is so noted for. I didn't target any specific spots throughout the day; I just ran the boat around sitting about 20 yards off shore and cast in towards the shoreline. All fish were caught on a small 3" swimbait rigged on a standard jighead. But all in all a very good day and I am glad I went. I think I saw one other boat on the lake and that was about it; nothing like having a 60+ acre lake basically all to yourself for the afternoon : )
