Early goose and dove will be similar to last years seasons and bag limits. Dove will start on Sept 1st thru the 26th. Hunting times are noon to sunset daily. Second and third splits will be Oct 24 to Nov 28th and Dec 26 th thru Jan 2nd. Hours for the later season will be one half hour before sunrise till sunset. Daily bag limit is 15 daily, 30 possession limit. Early goose will open Sept 1st thru Sept 25th. Limits vary in different areas of the state, but as I see it our local limit is at eight daily and 16 possession.
The 2009 resident goose population is estimated at 289,787. Again this year, there will be a youth hunt for waterfoul on Sept 19th. The youth day will be open to 12 to 15 years olds who hold a junior hunting license. The participating youngster must have an adult along, who may assist the youth idenification, calling, and other aspects of hunting. During this day long hunt, youth can harvest ducks, mergansers & coots, as well as Geese. Daily limitis are the same as adults for these hunts.
Also new this year, youths (under age of 12) will be required to obtain a youth mentor license to participate in mentored hunts. The cost of this license ia $2.70 and is available at our store, as well as any other license agency. Mentored hunts allow a youngster to acompany a licenced adult hunter to to receive one on one, hands on experience, and training in the field, on the ethics, safety, and enjoyment of the many aspects of the hunting experience.
