Had several fishermen coming in the shop saying they have been catching some decent crappies at Octoraro this past week. One fellow who was there last thurs, had caught quite a few nice size fish at the back two bridges. Minnows seem to be the ticket. Also another fellow had luck at the 472 bridge fishing a downed tree in the water. Rember, shore fishing is all that is permitted now, no boating this time of year. I read somewhere this year that the water authority had open up a lot more areas to shore fishing. Any one heard any more on this?

Went to Octoraro this morning and fished for two hours. Pick up two crappies. Just to cold and windy. When I arrived there were 14 cars parked by the boat dock and the bridges. There was around twenty people or so fishing. Spring will not arrive to soon for me.

I was there Tuesday Feb.22nd., I fished for about 4 hours, caught some nice crappies, but had to work for them. They seem to be hugging the bottom, a slip bobber is a must.

From what I've heard very little ice, and possibly none, quite a few guys fishing so they are probably catching some fish, but that's all I've heard. Good luck if you go.

Took the Kayaks out for a few hours Crappie fishing on Octoraro Sunday 05/21/2006 11:30 am till 2:00 pm. Cloudy w/ gusty Winds. Tried live minnows, mini crank baits & Jig heads. Spotted a few schools on the fish finder on structure about 12'-15' deep in 20' of water. Tough to feel a hit with the wind, lost alot of minnies. Wife caught a 11" Crappie in 5' water, in a back cove, using a blue & green RoosterTail. Came in early due to dark storm clouds building.

Didn't realize that you could take a yak out there. I tried to take a 15' canoe out a few years back and they wouldn't allow it. I've since gotten a 14' V-hull. I always did well along the rocks to the right of the ramp and a couple of the small coves toward the left of the ramp. There's one little cove with a lot of sticks and a big rock in the middle of it where I always seemed to pick up a few decent bass. Always had luck with silver or gold Rat-L-Traps or 6" rubber.
