Stopped by Struble the other day, saw a guy on shore catching one crappie after another. Thought I'd give it a try this morning. After about 10 minutes of casting out to deep water, I found that the crappies were only 6-8 feet off shore, right outside the reeds standing in the water. Had a Trout Magnet on and started catching lots of fish. I quit counting after 25! Whites and blacks both, I was catching whites to the left of me and then cast to the right and catch blacks, which were nicer size. No slabs but better size then the ones I saw caught last year. Caught all the fish in front of the parking lot. Lots of carp along the shoreline rolling and splashing and doing there thing right now, would be a good time to bowfish for 'em

Wet a line there today. Got a crappie on second cast. fished for 40 minutes never got another one. Many carp spawning. Saw two fella's who got 50. They were using minnows from a boat. Two other guys in a boat were throwing spinnerbaits for bass. They claim to have got a few.

Back to the lake again this morning, couple of fellas in a boat about 30 yds off shore were doing well with crappies. I tried from shore with no luck. Ran some errands and stopped back later in the day. This time I brought my chest waders. Struble being shallow, allowed me to wade out about 15 yds. from shore. Took about 10 minutes to find the fish, but they were schooled up left of where I was standing. Long casts got me fish , 46 to be exact in about 2 1/2 hours. Mostly black Crappies with a few whites mixed in. Several bluegills also. Didn't keep any, but had about 20 that would have been good keepers. Caught them all on Trout Magnets again.

Stopped buy Struble Thurs nite, to try for crappies, instead of bass fishing for a change. Heard of some fish being caught again last couple of days. Waded out as far from shore as I could with chest waders, tied on the old faithful Trout Magnet, starting fan casting the area. After about 15 minutes of searching I finally found a school of Crappie. All the fish were nice size for this lake, not slabs but big enough to keep. Also caught blue gills, mostly small, but with a few fat ones mixed in. Wound up with 19 crappies, 16 gills and 3 perch. Release all fish to fight again. Used a 7" noodle rod & 4lb test line made it a lot of fun !

These have been the one of the hottest jigs for crappie we've had in several years. Not only on Struble but Marsh Creek also. I'm sure they will work on any lake that has crappies or blue gills for that matter. We sell them at our store for $1.97 pack. I've had the best luck on mint green, gold ,white, bubblegum, and some two tones. Crappie will take these jigs bare, but when fishing gets tough , just tip it with a wax worm . Blue gills hit the best with a wax worm on it, although I've caught many with the body only. . They have also brought out a larger version, called a Crappie Magnet , which is new, but I've not tried it yet. Ken By the way I was out at Struble again wading tonite caught 18 nice crappie (9-10") and 22 Bluegills, some decent size, some small, on......Trout Magnets!

Seems as if the porcupine cribs BrandyWine BassMasters put in the lake are paying off. Twenty more are going to be installed this year. Good to hear the fishing is picking up.
