Mr icemole question for you friend of mine looking to get his 2 boys out fishing Saturday. I think they 10&12 not much fishing experience on their part and dad is basically a bottom fishing high low rig catfish fisherman. Think here is a good place to try? Only places I know to fish at this time of year you either throwing jigs for crappie or throwing jigs for perch
Yeah I'd look for something closer to home - small ponds, any of the old canal along the river have water in it ? even Hopewell(nice pier). Ontelaunee if they hit the RR tracks at Peters area might hook up on panfish or maybe a bass - but not sure on weeds growth right now. The other choice would be along 73(222side) from the little "feedmill" cove to "crappie" cove about half way to the parking lot. Depending on the kids may not be a good choice - steep rip-rap or cliffs into deeper water.
Water high and cold but clear for most part, many hits but only managed 2 nice fat bass in 2-3lb range( most likely becouse of new hooks I tried )Wind made it tougher to cast and feel, few people in the water but I didn't see them catch too much, Will get them next time
Thank's for the reply icmole,I think my problem wasn't that hooks were not sharp enough, since I have been using gamakatsu hooks for years and they are very sharp out the package, but the selection of hook and size, I used 4/0 offset hook that was different configuration than I normally use,( too mutch metal exposed makes them spit it out??? ) so I'm going back to my old style which never failed me,also size matters a lot since most of the bites were very light. Good luck and keep us updated. Z
