First time posting here but ive been lurking this message board for a few years now.
I fished Marsh Creek only a handful of times with poor results and this was i think the first time this year since concentrating my efforts in Jersey.
Anyways I woke up intending to hit up some Jersey lakes but noticed the rain that morning was heading west to east so I figured if i drive west to marsh I would have more time to fish in more comfortable weather.
I tried the southern end of the lake in the past but with blah results so I decided to head north towards the bridge just to try it for the first time. I do what i normally do which is to just run up the banks junk fishing grass lines till I had a strike on my popmax. It didnt seem like much but it made me stop and fan cast the area. A few casts in something takes it, I feel the weight and think i got myself a monster lmb till I see this fish flash near the surface. The fight was incredible and the whole time im telling myself that im sure to lose this beast. Ive had lmbs bend out my poppers trebles and ive heard stories of how easily muskies can slice line so it was very nerve wrecking to say the least. She was pulling my kayak around then going directly underneath me as i was in panic mode trying to figure out how to net this beast with my seemingly small net. After a few failed attempts I luckily got her to swim her into my net. As soon as that happened the popper comes flying out of her mouth, completely tearing off the rear trebles.
At this point my body is in shock and starts cramping up as i have no clue what to do next. Luckily a kayaker was near and i asked him to help me take a pic. After that i spent a good amount of time reviving her till she shook off from my hand. A few moments afterwards boaters came by as they heard of my catch and estimated my catch to be 48" and that could estimate it because their club has been stocking pure bred muskies there for a number of years and could tell how big the fish really was.
