From my experience if you fish from shore you have until at least the 1st week of May to catch decent crappie here. If you have or rent a boat the 3rd and sometimes 4th week of May depending on their spawning run

That sounds promising. I don't like that walk from the parking lot to the bridge it's dangerous ! I've fished the rip rap to the right of the boat ramp before but never near the ramp itself.Hopefully I can get up there after all this rain passes. Fished that place hard last summer caught mostly little catfish and bluegill . I hear white perch are thick in there but I've caught one in about 4 trips.

I have never caught a white perch from shore but if you rent a boat and go to the down trees during the spawn you will catch more perch than crappie. also lots of nice size bluegill. I don't fish octorara often Chambers is too close and easier access to good fishing spots. I hope octorara isn't a far drive for you it gets muddy very easily and with this rain past couple days could be bad

About 35 minutes not too bad. I hear Perryville Md isn't too far from there and much better fishing. The Octorara is special to me . My aunt and uncle used to take me there in the 80's when I was a young buck and I remember catching bucket's of SLABS right under the old 472 bridge. Those were the days

Actually we might have seen each other when I was kid. My grandfather and grandma use to take me as a kid back then. I remember you didn't have to fish the bridge. Just walk along the rip rap jigging up and down. I caught many crappie like that between the ages of 5&10. As far as perryville if you talking Owen's marina that's closed to fishing now. You can only fish that from Nov-March when they take the boats out. And you have to purchase a permit to fish off the docks. I fished there Dec-March this year yea good winter fishing for sure

Yup back then crappie right by the parking lot section off 472. We caught Alot of eels too. My aunt used to grill them over hickory wood. Wow it was Owens I heard about. I also hear there is a fishing dock in Perryville community park that's productive too.

I never caught or saw anyone catch a eel in octorara. Surprised to hear that. Never fished the park in perryville. Make sure you get your permit to fish Owen's marina I saw the game warden at Least 3x last year it gets patrolled heavy and they do ask to see the permit along with license. You have to buy the permit during the week they not there on the wknd. Never heard of the perryville community park but I know the park in the town of North East MD has awesome Nov crappie fishing

I'm talking '85-86 eels were deep in there. My aunt would fish one pole with a bobber and minnow for Crappie and another pole with a half ounce singer and Chunk of night crawler casted FAR out for eels. Thinking of checking Perryville park out . Ready to go trout fish for a couple hours although the past few years I've lost interest in trout fishing.

Spring time you can fish for white perch, yellow perch, crappie and in a couple weeks walleye all of which taste better than trout to me
