bassbum ... Sunset is about 45mins before dark. Quite a few years back we had a fatal boating accident here at Blue Marsh and for awhile the PFBC were pretty strict about lights on at sunset.(even though the accident occurred well after dark)
You can find a sunset chart/times in the boating regulations(PFBC's page) or if you are a waterfowler in those regulations and I'm sure many other places on the net.

Yea, I know icemole. I don't remember them being so strict about it a few years ago when we were all out there fishing the ice. Oh well, I'm just parking in the lyndell lot from now on. I'll make that walk not to be yelled at from the loud speaker again. The fishing is always best at sunset.

Saturday at marsh my buddy did get on along Chalfont where the water comes rite up to the road... very sketchy. He drilled some holes about 10-15 ft out..2-3 inches.. that was the only ace with any chance to get on.. we walked down to carpenters and it was thawed 5-10ft out and another 10ft of of what looked like skim to maybe an inch

I knew we had a lot of rain and it was warm but I didn't think we would have lost that much ice in carpenter's. Was hoping to get out Tuesday but I guess that's a long shot, or off to another safer place. Not a fan of sketchy ice!

Tried to do drive by on my way home and to check carpenter's but was too late, officer was on his way down from upper lot and instructed me to turn around. Could see the guys by chalfont and there was one guy in ranger cove. Will try to check Thursday

Fished Chalfont yesterday( Tuesday). The ice was 3- 3 1/2 inches, out in the middle. Closer to the swimming rock was thinner, didn't risk checking it but I could visually see it wasn't good. With the upcoming warm up, ice conditions aren't looking good. Hopefully another cold blast will follow!

edges are still a bit sketchy, 1/2 inch on some spots, 3 in others, but the middle of the cove to the right of the boat launch side (not the main one) had just about 9 inches in some spots, down to 6 in others. so if you are going out be careful its very inconsistent, one second you could be walking on 9 and the next youre on 2. open water on the main lake out in the middle.
