My son and I scheduled a pheasant hunt with a guide on a private farm in November. This will be our first hunting trip of any kind.
I will be using a Browning pump BPS 12 gauge, it currently has a modified choke. Being that I'm a rookie should I consider installing a more open choke?

I say keep the choke. Most important thing when pointing a shotgun is keep your head down. If you can see the top of your gun you will shoot under your target every single time.

For farm raised pheasant I’d go with IC and 6 shot.

Thanks for the tips, I am going to get a improved cylinder choke. My son and I are taking a trap shooting class and will shoot a few rounds of trap before our hunting trip.

Freshly stocked birds in heavy brush. I'd definitely go imp cyl. More important is how your gun is patterning. A load of fiochhi golden pheasant is going to pattern a whole lot tighter than some cheaper softer lead loads. The choke is kind of a starting place.

We had got out for Pheasant on 11/22 and each got 2, had a great time and learned a lot. Thank you all for the advice on chokes and ammo.
