I have asked the Park Rangers numerous times why the northern end gets closed off each year (last year it was not). I have always been told that it is for migratory birds; but that being said.....it's interesting how it re-opens on the first day of Bass Fishing each year?? With the small size of the lake and the heavy pressure it receives I really would not have an issue even if it was to protect the bass spawn. Each year the lake receives more and more pressure; yesterday (Sunday) the place was packed (still caught plenty of bass though).

So last year north end was open, but this year it's closed. Birds? Bass? Anyone know what the reasons are whether to open or close the area? I'm okay either way, but what's the deciding factor? Did the birds call ahead this year and make a reservation? Just kidding. Since it's such a small lake and it gets so much pressure, they probably should close it every year to assure healthy and numbers of fish.

Last year was the first year I can remember that the North end was not closed off. Every other year it has been. If you call the office they will tell you it's closed for the birds; but I still have my doubts. That lake gets very small quickly though with that part closed off. I know everyone likes to head into the stumpfield as do I; but honestly; my favorite spot on the whole lake is far from that part.
