We will be going to South Bowers beach soon with the whole family- which means 7 grandkids... several that are interested in fishing. We are renting a beach front house.
Is that area suitable for the grandkids (oldest is 6) to catch anything from shore?
What bait? They are used to fishing worms on bobbers for sunnies. With Zebco rods/reels.
Any information would be appreciated
Thanks, Tom

Not sure about fishing there but I suggest you ask question on pierandsurf.com there is a Maryland/Delaware section . I'm pretty sure someone on there knows I read it pretty often

Back in the day I surf fished at Bowers Beach on the public beach. Using squid got mostly small sea trout and the occasional catfish.

I don't want to buy new gear, just for this, so I'm thinking take what I have, bottom fish, and I plan getting Fishbites blood worms. Thoughts?

Fishbites works really well. I use them very often in the Delaware and Chesapeake bay. I catch lots of fish I normally use nightcrawler with them just to add bulk

How long of a piece of fishbites blood worms do you use? I ordered the pack that has 12" long pieces.

If you using only fishbites I suggest #6 or #4 hooks and put on just enough so you can put the hook through twice. But if you using nightcrawler and just tipping with fishbites cut fishbites as small as you can. That smell last very long and there is mesh inside so it holds on the hook very well

If you didn't go yet they make fishbites in other flavors (crab, sandflea, shrimp) if you did go how did you make out?

Oldest grandson caught a cat fish at the inlet., did not measure, but I'd say around 14-16". , that was cool. May try again today.

Good deal that's a real fun fight for a kid. And pretty good eating when cooked right
