I guess I could have placed this question under "bass techniques" as well, but I'm more curious about using it for pan fishing. Do any of you use it and, if so, do you have a fav that you swear by? Store bought or home brew?

I've never used a sprayed on attractant if that's what you mean. I do use berkely gulp products when ice fishing and they are scented and work great!!

totally agree that Gulp scented plastics are some of the best, but my question is more to adding attractant like spray or stick products. any thoughts?

I bought 2.5" Gulp minnies(chart/white) for crappie earlier this year. Haven't caught a crappie or perch on them yet ...LOL. In fact I took one off two weeks ago put on a white power bait grub(I tinted with chart. spike it pen) and pulled in a dozen crappie 5 of which were 9-11" that came home for dinner.
I did catch 1 fish on the Gulp ... a 10lb hybrid, but that's it so far.
I use a fair amount of power baits in assorted sizes and also like crappie nuggets, but as far as any other stuff I don't bother anymore. I used several different types back in my bass "T" days never really noticed any improvement. I also soaked eggshells and dry dog food in them for "chumming" holes while ice fishing - NADA

Actually out fished a buddy who was using real minnows and we were literally fishing right next to each other.

I started with the 1"(both Chart and Pearl) but thought they were a little small - the 2.5" are a little big but I pinch a little off. I will try them under the ice ...if we get any. I got them because I could not get any minnies in my new minnie trap and I no longer have a bait shop around here(Ontelaunee area).

interesting that the conversation came around to berkley gulp minnows - awesome stuff!!!
for crappie (although i haven't seen any since the weeds went crazy) i use the 1" emerald shiner (comes in a jar - also works very well on trout; chart shad not so productive unless water color is very stained) or various colors of trout magnets depending on water color.
i use the 2" emerald shiner for perch - pulled in over 2 dozen a couple of times (and the occasional small bass). however, the 1" (mentioned above) and 2" look nothing alike, but they work, so who cares? btw, i will occasionally dip the 2" in the 1" jar - seems to work pretty well - hence my original question on attractants. don't ever toss these jars out as long as there's some "juice" left.
for bass, if my 5" worms aren't working, i'll go with the 3" watermelon/pearl, excellent for drop shot; pinched back slightly if jigging.
i know this sounds like an ad for berkley gulp minnows, but when you find something that works, you stay with it until it doesn't.

Back in the day when spray attractants 1st came out me and my family used them and had success but haven't tried recently. I have seen crayfish juice sprayed on nightcrawler to catch huge white perch and I have seen freshwater gamefish scent sprayed on peeler crabs to catch huge croakers. Nowadays I use the gulp products as well but mostly for salt or brackish water fishing. I find I can make crappie or perch bite if they in the area I rarely fish for largemouth bass.

I use a gulp spay... I believe it's garlic. I have no proof if it helps, but I do catch fish. If nothing else, I think it helps mask my human scent.
