AWESOME day out on the lake on Saturday. It started off rather slow but then something broke loose. In the first hour we managed 1 bass and a visit from the PFBC for a fishing license and life vest check; we had a little chat and then moved on. But over the course of the next few hours myself and BowlerX ended up with 24 Bass in the boat with the largest going an even 3 lbs. We tried all of the normal productive spots with very minimal success but then decided on a different tactic in different parts of the lake. We certainly made the right choices because the action over the course of the rest of the morning was incredible. We certainly didn't catch a ton of large bass but there were enough decent ones to keep us very content for the morning. Not sure why the lake turned on like it did because it's been a little slow down there recently but I guess it's just one of those days where we were fishing the right spots and the right bait and everything fell into place.

frogman
sounds like you had an awesome day - good for you.
i haven't been out to chambers in a while, but still practicing drop shot from the shore/wading. any spots around the lake that would be good to drop shot? or tons of underwater vegetation like some of the local lakes?

Not sure if you pay attention to the solunar tables, but Saturday was supposed to be an excellent day to fish and a minor activity time was 7:58 AM to 9:28 AM. I'd found if the weather is fairly stable, they can be quite accurate.

But that's interesting stuff; because it appears as if they were fairly accurate for Saturday.

Wader; I actually have thrown a drop-shot so little this season it's not even worth mentioning. I have thrown it a few times on the local lakes and have certainly caught a few but I've really only been throwing no more than 5 different baits the whole season so far (although 95% of the time I have it narrowed down to 3 baits). I've had good enough success that I just don't pull out the drop shot very often at all. But as far as a drop shot at Chambers I would say you need to be in 8' or deeper water in most cases. I know folks have had good success on a drop shot fishing off the foundation where the water drops quickly. You may even have better luck fishing down towards the dam; there's much deeper water there. Other than that; the points are typically decent but hard to reach them without a boat. Chambers does have a decent supply of vegetation right now; the stump field is loaded with weeds. Other areas the weeds drop off in about 6-7' of water.

frogman
thanks for the info. i was thinking the foundation and near the dam would likely be decent areas to drop shot. so thanks for the confirmation.
likewise, over the last so many years, i've worked my way down to using 2-3 baits about 95% of the time - we tend to use what works, right?
anyway, i started using the drop shot about a month or so ago when it paid off to really slow things down. i was having some good success until the weeds went crazy, so i've been looking for some sandy/rocky areas - somewhat free of the weeds. but, fishing from the shore, i can't really tell what the area underwater is like 60-70 feet out. so i was hoping some of you boat/yak guys could point me toward some weedless spots. maybe i just need to wait another month or so when the weeds start to die off a little all over.
thanks, again.

Is the that what you guys call it? The foundation? I like that better than the path.

frogman i finally got out to chambers today. drop shot would have been a good choice in those two areas except the water was really stained. drop shot seems to work much better when water is pretty clear and bluebird sky. just curious - was the water as stained when you were out on saturday? and, if so, what were you throwing? at least, what color(s)?

milltown
i'm pretty much a newbie at chambers, but i believe it's called "the foundation" because it's all that remains of an old house/estate before the creek was dammed. makes sense. and...it must have been pretty big!! i'd love to see an old photo of it if any of the chambers old timers have one???

If you have Google maps you can use the historical timeline feature and see what was there before the lake.
