Headed out on the lake at 6:00 AM trying to beat the heat; well......4+ hours later; one small sunfish in the boat between the two of us. Plus outboard issues and of course the heat along with 85 degree water temps. So to say this was an ideal fishing day would be an injustice, HAHA! Overall; a terrible morning on the water. I had good company (BowlerX) and some good conversation but the fishing was no good. This was his first time on BM so I was hoping to show the lake off a little bit but instead I got my very first skunk on the lake....oh well; that's fishing for ya'. I'm certainly looking forward to cooler water temps soon; the bass just aren't biting on that lake with it so warm. We saw a ton of Alewife activity and probably what were a few carp but that's it.

Too bad you guys got the skunk treatment that day but at least you had a day out on the water.
I don't have much experience at all with Blue Marsh but a friend of mine was there 2 weeks ago and got a good amount of smallmouths fishing drop shots on the points.

Oh well; the skunk happens to the best of us sometimes, haha. Blue Marsh can be a very tough lake; it will certainly put your skills to the test some days. As far as your friend and him catching the smallies; that's awesome. Now is the time of the year you want to be down on the main lake fishing the points. But with my little 1436 john boat and small outboard there is no way I am taking it out on the main lake; way to dangerous. I stay up in the Tully arm 100% of the time; there's some decent spots up there but I would much rather be on the main lake fishing for smallies right now.

Yea it certainly does and more often than i'd like to admit haha.
I only have my kayak so I wouldn't be out on the main lake area either. I don't know if he's been back since then so who knows what's going on there now.

I was over this morning (mainly trying to catch shiners...fail). Did see a guy put one of those plastic tracker tadpoles(?) in on the main lake. He stayed near the launch for awhile but then he headed out. 3-4 bassboats launched and 1 "other" while I was there so it wasn't a mess yet LOL.
I got 1 decent smallie about 16" and 1 dink smallie about 12" and a half dozen quarter sized gills(released) in the minnie trap but zero shiners.
Sometime over the last week they stocked musky fingerlings saw a couple of dead ones plus 3 live ones. If you hit that just right it's a feeding frenzy for 2-3 days till they smarten up .

Well it sounds like that guy in the plastic boat is a heck of a lot braver than me. I wouldn't even consider taking my 14' john boat on the main lake. Hopefully in the next year or two when I do get a bass boat then I'll head out from the lower ramps (or at least head down to the main lake). I'm glad to hear you at least got a couple of smallies. I heard about the musky release; apparently they were hanging by the docks for a day or two by the hundreds. I should have gone down there; I could have caught my first musky, haha.

If you get there in time you have a good chance at getting your musky. I've caught bass(both), stripers, musky and even walleye feeding on the fingerlings. HINT .... match the hatch. Of course you could always tie on a crappie twister or trout spinner and catch a little guy LOL.
