Took my nephew over to the lake a few hours Sunday afternoon. Fished minnows and meal worms. Bite was slow. A few small perch, some nice fat bluegills, and a 13 inch bass. Saw a few pickerel cruising the banks but not luck getting them to bite.

If you want to have a great time on Scotts Run chasing the Pickerel around just head out there with a white Strike King Mini-King Buzzbait. I have had some awesome trips to that lake fishing for Pickerel. Head to the upper end in the shallow weedy water; that's where they will be hiding.

I'm going to have to try this lake out again. Hadn't fished it for 15 years and wasn't impressed then. I would love to get my son into some pickeral. Are they more active in the day or night?

Actually the numerous decent trips I've had down there were when I decided to take a half day off work and head down there around noon or so during the week. I would be the only boat on the lake; the sun was high in the sky and those pickerel were too anxious to hit the buzzbait. Please note that I never really caught any monsters; the largest ever on Scott's Run was about 15-16" but it was still a ton of fun. My best trip down there was two years ago in the middle of the summer (fishing from around 12:30 PM to around 4:00 PM and I landed 15 of them and lost a few others. It's kind of neat fishing for them that way because you can see the wake they create as they started chasing the buzzbait; almost like a small V heading towards the bait. The hard part though is being patient and not setting the hook too quickly.

Thanks for the tip. Do you fish from a boat? I'm land-locked. Will I be able to access the far end. I've done all my fishing along the spillway and boat dock area.

I do fish from a boat; but when I got back up to the end of the lake I had to pull my trolling motor out of the water and paddle around because it got so shallow. I am not sure if you can access the lake from shore up there but I would imagine it could be safe to wade all the way up there because it is so shallow. I know the creek channel gets very deep down towards the dam end and at least half way up but I honestly can't say what the creek channel actually does further up-lake. About 1/3-1/2 way up the lake it drops off into 16+' pretty quickly in the channel.

Thanks. I'll have to look into it next time I'm there.

Just be careful wading uplake (opposite end from the dam). There are several areas with really soft silt that you can sink in 6"-12" and possibly lose a boot or get super stuck and take an unexpected dip. Yeah - speaking from experience : O
