Does anyone know when they start to raise the water levels to summer pool at BM? Also; any clue when they typically put the boat ramp back in at the Sheidy Launch? I'm hoping to get out on the lake somewhere in the near future to give the little outboard a trial run and workout before the season hits full swing.

Last year they didn't go in until the middle of April. Of course the ice wasn't off till about April 1st. This year it will probably depend on when they feel they can raise the lake to normal pool. They lower it in winter for spring rains, so they still could hold off until the middle of April. You should be able to run your boat now, even without a dock or normal pool. I'll run my 16 foot Lund anytime there is open water in the winter. Just pull it up to shore after launching, then push off with a paddle to run your boat.

I'll give you a first hand look this afternoon, but judging from the fact they are releasing pretty much water I'd guess it is/was full. I'd imagine that once it gets back to "winter pool" they will cut the flow back(guessing today or tomorrow). Stream flow site waterdata.usgs.gov/pa/nwis/current/?type=flow Mid April is generally close to when they hold water to full pool. If you are a "facebooker" they have a page there.

I actually just went onto the USGS site yesterday and saw that two days ago the level was up to 293; winter pool is 285 so the level came up pretty high from the rain. But it also showed that they were drawing water to get it back down to 285 again. I was basically just wondering when they starting holding water to slowly bring it back up to 290 which is summer pool. I do also follow their FB page; I just "liked" it last night. But even if it takes a while to get it back to summer pool it seems as if I would have no trouble launching anyway; but I guess they put the dock back in (at Sheidy) one it hits summer pool (or do they put it back in before that)?

Well they have about 2 feet to get down to winter pool yet - It's dead grass brown. I did not go up to Shiedy but stopped at Dry Brooks.

I think full pool is 290. Right now it's just shy of 286. I think they shoot for full pool by Apr 15th to get the docks in. Maybe they are starting to raise it now, as winter pool is 285. There's still plenty of water to fish or launch, just no docks at this time.

Listen to Shellback & go fishing! You can launch boats without the ramps... there is plenty of draft at the launch sites to float a boat. I was out yesterday and the water color is fine, slightly darker up lake but not muddy. The dock at Shiedy is owned & controlled by the Fish Commission, the lower docks by The Army Corp. They do not work on the same schedule for putting them in. In any event there is plenty of water to launch & fish the upper Sheidy ramp. PLUS with the water down you can LEARN the contours better.

Besides that the stripers/hybrids are biting.

According to the USGS website it looks like they may have slowly started raising the lake again; its up over 286 now. With the forecast for tomorrow I am hoping to possibly get out there sometime tomorrow. I'm ready to hit the points leading into the flats and coves. Quick question; has anyone ever caught any hybrids up in the no-wake? I assume they aren't up that far but you never know.

The background in the picture of the big striper on the other thread, sure looks a no wake zone.

yes stripers roam the entire lake and yes they can be caught in the no wake areas. The follow the baitfish and the no wake signs are ignored by the baitfish!!!

Decided to take the boat out on BM on Saturday. Overall it wasn't really a fishing trip. I was out for about 3 hours but fished for maybe 30 minutes. I just really wanted to give the new outboard a trial run and explore the lake a little bit. I had a blast; the winds were calm and the lake seemed fairly empty. There were 8 or 9 trailers in the parking lot but I only saw a couple of boats the whole time I was out. The several folks that I ran into weren't catching anything (nor did I); but again......I just wanted to run the motor and explore. First time re-starting the warm motor I flooded it good, haha; but I figured out how to pull the spark plug; dry it off and then restart the motor. I never had an outboard before so I need to learn these things before the fish start biting. I was getting the hang of it by the time I was done for the day though. The nice thing with the low lake level though was that I was able to see a lot of cover that will soon be under a few feet of water and saw some really crazy contour and cover along the shoreline; so overall it was a very informative few hours.

Be careful of taking the motor apart on the water... flooding thge engine is not fixed but cleaning the spark plugs, just let it sit for a minute then retry. After it starts once, push the choke in (off) and try to start. You should not need to re-prime (choke out) after you started it once. Use name brand gas... went through this with my motor...do NOT use gas from Sheetz or the grocery store. I use Mobile but any major name brand is better than the others. ALWAYS put fuel stabilizer in your tank.
