Well, finally got the truck fixed and headed over to marsh just before the sun set. Didnt walk out to it but rangers cove looked to be fishable, rest of the lake was frozen over with 1 inch of ice except for that small sweet spot that we all like to fish on. Didnt walk down to carpenters cove. The plows were out clearing the trail to it. Im not sure, but i suspect that there would be enough ice to fish on there. Its quite a hike to check it out sight unseen though. I sure am curious though. The weather doesnt look too bad this week, but beyond that doesnt look good

Thanks for the report..we have been wondering but really can't make the drive. We are hoping to try this weekend and yes the hike will suck,I would think the cove could be good.

Is it possible to get on the ice at MC by the boat rental area? I'm sure Chalfont gate is closed. Can't catch a break, waited so long for ice and now we can't access it with all this snow.

Iceman, the lot is plowed and it would be possible, but there are some huge snow mounds to climb over and you would have to hike into rangers cove to be able to step on any ice. Again I didn't walk down to check thickness, but it looked ok from the turnaround by the gate. Most of lake is clear 1 inch of ice. But they did plow the trail to carpenters. That would be an easier walk but don't know how thick any ice is there

Just and update from the park.
We are doing what we can to get everything open it was a lot of snow so some equipment went down.
We are working on the path to carpenters cove today and hopefully opening chalfont between today and tomorrow. Once open we will take an ice reading and post it on here.

There is path down to carpenters cove.
I went out about 30 feet from where the path ends and drilled a hole. It was about 2.5 inches thick then 5 inches of water then 1 inch thick ice. No slush on top.

Everybody is wondering the same thing, really don't look like we have more time with temps in the high 40s and rain.
