Kayaked both lakes yesterday. I came with the intention of (mentally) mapping the lake bottom for ice fishing, if we ever get ice. French Creek was packed to the gills with hunters. We arrived at Scott's Run at 9:30 and the water was glass, probably with water temps in the low to mid 40s. I started out throwing an ice jig tipped with waxies under a bobber. Nothing. There were some sunnies in >6 feet of water at the far end of the lake, but no taker. We went all the way up the lake and I switched to a 2 inch white curly tail on a 1/32 oz jig. In eight feet of water directly adjacent to a shallow bay, I got the only fish. Yellow perch, 11 inches, girthy. The rest of Scott's Run was entirely uneventful. We talked with some fisherman on the dam who said they had no luck with minnows. We tried Hopewell, too, with no luck. I talked to one guy in a jonboat, who said he caught several crappie on a jigging Rap relating closely to the bottom. He was in 20 feet of water near the dam. Beautiful day on the water, I was happy to see so many people were taking advantage of the local outdoor opportunities. Here's to hoping for some cold weather!
