Went out today from 12 noon to about 3pm, I know not the best hours but all I had available. First time I ever fished there and was a little disappointed. Really small lake, lots of weeds and strong current pushing us around. Tried cranks and senkos but no luck at all. Not even any bites. Not sure if I would go back there ...probably won't. Felt to small and the weeds were a pain in arse...lol.

That lake can be very tough this time of the year and especially that time of day. I have been fishing Hopewell for 5 years now and have never walked away empty handed; although there have been numerous trips where a 10-12" Bass has saved me from being skunked. Dont write that lake off; there are a few GIANTS in there. Back about 4-5 weeks ago I had my best day fishing there ever; actually my best fishing day EVER to be honest. Nothing huge but most were above the normal Hopewell sized Bass. I also hooked into a Monster the following day; she came off right at the boat. Everyone who knows me knows that I do not tell fish stories; if I caught a 4" bass I say it; if I caught a 5+ then you know I did. Anyway; the Bass I lost was bigger than the 10+ I caught elsewhere several years ago. During the Springtime I saw several very large Bass cruising the shallows as well. If you want to catch fish there this time of the year go EARLY! Fish the shallows at days first light; by 8-9 AM the day will be over. Typically that lake is a sheet of glass early in the AM too. I always have problems with my small aluminum blowing around during midday hours; but you shouldnt have to worry about that if you go early enough. The lake is rather small but I can easily fish the whole lake (or the spots I like to go) in a matter of several hours. In the past five years I have caught hundreds of Bass total out of there; several have been over 5+ and there a few 3-4 lbs as well. If you do go out in the late morning/early afternoon all I can say is look for shady spots along the shore. Some are very hard to get at, but be creative.....youll find a way to get back into those spots. But as soon as all of the Kayakers get out on the lake and also the boat rentals pick up for the day you may as well just go home.
