I would say there is a 4"-6" base of original ice with a coating of snow/slush/ water on top. Drilling yesterday was like going through a 3" soft layer before hitting the hard ice.
Had a buddy out for his first time Saturday and he landed a gorgeous 12 1/4" crappie on his first drop. Pretty slow day for myself with all small perch and sunfish.
Did better sunday with a few keeper perch w/ one female around 13". They seemed to shut off around noon.
Fished yesterday afternoon and had good perch action until the front came in and blocked the sun. One perch coughed up a baby perch so I put it on a bigger swedish pimple, moved about 20 yards away to another hole to see what would happen......I lifted it off the bottom without jigging it...bam...missed it lowered it back down.....wham...a 10" perch had it all the way down his gullet.......hmmmmm

wow that must of been a battle Sheer dumb luck. Only bite all day. They seem to be in 12' or less this year. Brad, It was a good battle. For some reason that fish did put up a good battle, more than fish I got in the past of similar size.

Not much for me over the weekend. Stayed in on Saturday, went out Sunday before the bowl. Everytime I drilled a hole i caught one then nothing. Move 40 yards drill catch a fish or two. Bunch of small perch, managed three that were keepers but tossed them back. A few fish still coughed up baby perch.
I want a musky bad.....never caught one. Maybe some of my flounder jigs will do the trick.

one of my friends on you tube posted this video www.youtube.com/user/bellbucksnbeards#p/u/2/UjC9MMde-Wkits a local bait shop hosting an ice fishing tourney..and i guess if you watch the end you can tell they all know each-other from their on-line names. I was wondering if it would be possible if Gordan's did something like this next year on marsh creek

Can't wait to get out tomorrow!! If you see a guy in orange camo dragging a wooden box sled around, that will be me. I'll probably start out in one of the coves near the dam and play it by year.
Hoping to get a mixed bucket of some crappies and perch. Stop by and say hi I'll probably have the grill warmed up around noon. LOL!!

Fished Saturday and caught a few bass one that was about 14 that had a gash in its side like a musky had grabbed it. Nothing but bluegills and small perch jigging but plenty of them.

Other than the wind, it was an aweseome day Saturday. Fished from sun-up to till about 5:15 and landed 20+ crappies. Kept a dozen and put some keepers back too. Biggest about 12" -13" with most being 9"-10" and some smaller throwbacks.
1" gulp minnows and leeches were the ticket, they outfished a guy 5 ft from me using live minnows. I rigged them on a plain jig hook without a weighted head, splitshot about 16" above. Nothing for me on pimple's or rapala's.
Hoping to get back out tomorrow before the warm weather hits.
