A recent survey shows that the majority of anglers and hunters are unaware that their licence fees go 100% to the state fish and wildlife agencys. Did you know that you pay 10% in federal excise taxes every time you buy a rod, reel, lure, line etc.? That money also goes 100% back to the individual states ( propotioned to the number of licence sales in each state). Thats right, the Pa Fish Commission And the Pa Game Commission are totally funded by licence sales and, a portion of the sportsman paid , FET taxes. No funds are received from the general tax revenue collected by the state or the federal government. The FET taxes collected are overseen by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service. The staff of there offices are assigned to states with in their jurisdiction to see that the money is spent for the purpose stated in law. If they don't they can lose the money. The money is required to be used for management and restoration of fisheries (managing, protecting, creating, and restoring sport fisheries), which includes state hatcheries, fish surveys, and research and management. Also to create and improve access to waters, boating safety grants, recuitment and promotion of fishing and boating, such as the "Take M e Fishing" campaigns. So now you know !
